2 x Edwardian Silver Menu Holders, Birmingham 1905

Here we have a charming Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Menu Holders. The holders have stepped bases, weighted for stability, with the hinged and sprung clip holders designed as ribbon garlands.
These would be ideal for the top table at a wedding, an anniversary dinner or any romantic occasion.
The menu holders were made in Birmingham by Boardman, Glossop & Co and date to 1905. Initially founded by Charles Boardman as silversmiths in 1844, by 1850 they had almost entirely switched to electroplating, although they continued to produce small items of silverware. A.O. Glossop joined the firm as partner around 1860 and they became Boardman, Glossop & Co in 1887. They manufactured in Sheffield and Birmingham and had a showroom in London's Holborn district. The business was finally bought out in 1924 by Frank Cobb & Co.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each menu holder is 6.5cm / 2.5ins high, with the garland being 5.5cm / 2.2ins wide and the base 3.3cm / 1.3ins in diameter. The pair together weigh in at 90.8g / 3.2oz, which does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks on the tops of the bases are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter f for 1905 and the B & G Co Ld makers' mark for Boardman, Glossop & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the menu holders.
