Pair of Japanese double gourd cloisonné vases
This is an exquisite pair of Japanese double gourd-shape cloisonné vases decorated with panels and bands of floral motifs, dragons and Foo dogs, circa 1900, Meiji Period.
Having a brown background they are not as 'showy' as some other pairs of vases but the fineness of the wire-work and the detail in the enamel decoration are simply breath-taking, and lift these vases to a museum quality level. The only flaw is that one of the vases has a small amount of damage though this is restricted to a background area and does not effect the decorative panels.
Dimensions: Height 25 cm, Diameter 12 cm
Weight: 571g and 597g
Condition: There is a 20 x 13 mm patch towards the base in the band of plain brown enamel where the underlying copper is exposed (see photo 2). Apart from this one area of damage the vases are in very good condition with no evidence of fractures in the enamel and no dents in the bodies. Please contact David by using the enquiry form or phoning 07931 370372 if you would like to see additional photographs (of which there are many) or require more information.
Postage & packing: £10 within the UK. Please contact us for a quote if you are an international buyer.
