Georgian Silver Pepper Pot 1796 Bottle & Wilsher
Sweet late 18th century silver pedestal pepper pot of inverted baluster form set on a square collet foot. The slip on cover has reeding around the bottom, concave shoulders and a raised ridge under the domed top to aid with pulling the cover off. It is decorated with bright cut engraving, criss-crossing spiral lines creating a diaper type background for the main band running around the centre with a central reserve with a small bird, probably a family crest or symbol. Further fine dotted and wavy lines run around the main body, lid and foot and small flowers decorate each corner of the base. Inside both sections are gilded.
