George V Silver Mustard Pot & Spoon, B'ham, 1929
This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner and Sterling Silver Spoon. The mustard pot is in the traditional drum style, the earliest design of mustard pot, which originated in the 1760s. The mustard spoon is in the classic Old English pattern.
The mustard pot and spoon are made in Birmingham by Docker & Burn and date to 1929. Docker & Burn were only in business as a partnership for around a decade between 1920 and 1930 and specialised in high quality tableware. Because of this their makers' mark is quite rarely seen.
Condition of both the pot and the spoon is very good with just one truly minute ding to the bottom of the body of the pot plus the surface wear you would expect after this period of time. The blue glass liner has no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 4.8cm / 1.9ins high and 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter. The mustard spoon is 6.5cm / 2.5ins long. The pot and spoon together, without the blue glass liner, weigh in at a very respectable 32.9g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the side of the mustard pot and the underside of the stem of the mustard spoon, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter E for 1929 and the D & B makers' mark for Docker & Burn.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
