This is a beautiful and ornate large hearth trivet or 'Footman'.
English, it dates to the late 18th Century or early 19thC.
It would stand by the fire place to take kettles or pots from the fire.

The top is made of a large piece of heavy plate brass with fretwork pierced decoration, and the base is wrought iron with cabriole legs and curved feet.The pieces are steel welded together.

Excellent condition throughout.
