Arts & Crafts Gilded Silver Salt, Miller Bros 1899 Victorian Arts Crafts Silver %%alt5%%
Here we have a very attractive small Victorian Sterling Silver octagonal Open Salt with a gilded interior in the Arts & Crafts style. The salt has an embossed floral decoration in the gilded bowl with a pinch decorated rim.

The salt is made in Birmingham by Miller Brothers and dates to 1899. Miller Brothers were a small Birmingham silversmiths active between around 1895 and 1920 who made primarily tableware and personal items, with many of their early items being in the Arts & Crafts style.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt is 5.2cm / 2ins across from rim to rim and stands 1.4cm / 0.6ins high. It weighs 7.0g / 0.25oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the side of the bowl are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Z for 1899 and the M. BROS makers' mark for Miller Brothers.
