6 x Victorian Large Silver Teaspoons, London, 1876
Here we have a set of six heavyweight large Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. Each spoon has the initials GDP elegantly engraved at the top of the stem. Possibly the perfect gift for an economist or the Chancellor of the Exchequer!
The spoons are made in London by the renowned silversmiths Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater and date to 1876. Henry Holland was in business as a silversmith by 1840, later going into partnership with John Aldwinckle and James Slater who carried on the firm after Henry Holland's death. They are principally known as fine quality spoon makers but did also make other items of silver for the table.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just a little bit of spotting to a couple of the bowls plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after this period of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 14.3cm / 5.6ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a substantial 158.4g / 5.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter A for 1876, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the HH in conjoined circles makers' mark for Henry Holland, senior partner of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
