5 x George III Bright Cut Teaspoons, Exeter, 1810
This is an attractive set of 5 George III Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the classic Old English pattern with Bright Cut decoration. The spoons have the initials B J M engraved at the top of the stems. The bright cut engraving is very crisp and was almost certainly done at a later date, the Victorians and Edwardians were particularly keen on redecorating Georgian silver.
The teaspoons were made in Exeter by Joseph Goss and Francis Parsons and date to 1810. The is very little information available about Joseph Goss and Francis Parsons. Their mark is only seen on spoons and flatware assayed in Exeter for a short period of time between around 1800 and 1810.
Overall condition is good but there are flat spots in two of the bowls plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 13.1cm / 5.1ins long and the set of five together weighs in at a very respectable 60g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the Exeter date letter O for 1810, the George III duty mark and the J.G over F.P makers' mark for Joseph Goss & Francis Parsons.
