6 x Art Nouveau Silver Buttons, F.P.Lasserre, 1900
Here we have a fine quality Set of Six Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Buttons. The buttons are designed by French Art Nouveau artist Firmin Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943) and feature a woman smiling out at you with a large flower behind her and other flowers on her dress and in her hair.
The buttons were made in Birmingham by silversiths Levi & Salaman under their agreement with Lasserre and date to 1900. Founded by Phineas Levi and Joseph Salaman in 1870, Levi & Salaman quickly established a reputation for high quality silverware and remained in business for fifty years until they were merged into Barker Brothers in 1921.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each button is 3cm in diameter and the set of six together weighs in at a very respectable 33.8g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the sides of the buttons, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the L & S makers' mark for Levi & Salaman. In addition, each button has the stamped name LASSERRE to the right of the woman's head.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the buttons.
