2 x George IV Silver Salt Spoons, London, 1822

This is a good quality pair of George IV Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the classic Old English pattern. The spoons are made in London by George Piercy and date to 1822. George Piercy was a specialist spoon and fork maker who appears to have had a very short career as pieces with his mark are only known from 1819 to 1825, meaning that Piercy spoons come up for sale quite rarely.
The spoons are well made in a good gauge of silver. They have the initials "M.C" neatly engraved at the top of the stems. Perfectly usable for condiments on today's dining table, the rare Piercy mark also makes them an interesting addition to any collection.
The pair of salt spoons are in good condition with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear you would expect in items that are nearly 200 years old and have been used for serving salt. They have obviously been regularly cleaned and well looked after. Always wash your salt spoons thoroughly after use, don't let them sit around with salt on them! Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 9cm / 3.5" long and the pair together weigh a respectable 18.1g / 0.64oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are clear to read, with one being a little more rubbed than the other but both easily decipherable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "g" for 1822, the George IV duty mark and the GP makers' mark for George Piercy.
