Such a rare find a sterling silver mesh purse made before 1920 & fully hallmarked with
London import hallmark sterling & the date year for 1920. What makes this such a delightful
find is that it is totally robust and useable. It is an ideal evening bag for that special occasion
& certainly an ice breaker. The exterior frame, chain handle & mesh are superb & in the finest condition possible. The kiss closure contains beautiful pointed cabochon sapphires. The interior frames both carry the hallmarks shown magnified on image four & also the date letter "e".
The original grey silk lining is still in place & in remarkably good condition. You would be able to
carry your compact, make-up, money & a comb in this beauty. In some places the lining has been neatly repaired but this does not detract at all as it is not visible.

It weighs a hefty 236 grams & measures 6" wide & 61/4" high from the base to the sapphire cabochon closure. The chain handle stands 91/2" tall.

The hallmark HM into a Star of St David is for Harry Morser a manufacturer of antique jewellery -
329 High Holborn, London WC. Later on Harry Morser took over the Agencies of Burkadt & Co
a well known PForzheim silver manufacturer who specialised in mesh bag & purses.
