Here we have a very attractive late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish. The dish is round with pierced panels of alternating designs separated by embossed scroll work and there is also an embossed rim.

Although possibly originally intended as a bonbon dish for wrapped sweets, this dish would like beautiful holding antique jewellery on any dressing table or bedside cabinet today or even stationery items on a desk.

The dish is hallmarked in Chester for King & Sons and dates to 1898. The firm was active between around 1890 and 1910. Although based in London, their mark is most commonly seen on items assayed in Chester. Most of their pieces were aimed at wealthy ladies and included perfume bottles, trinket dishes, chatelaines, buckles, buttons and curling tongs.

Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly miniscule dings in the base. There is no damage to the delicate pierced panels. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The bonbon dish is 12cm / 4.7ins in diameter and stands 2.3cm / 0.9ins high. It weighs in at 43.5g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, which are quite well hidden in the rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter P for 1898 and the Kg & Sns makers' mark for King & Sons.
