Victorian Silver Sugar Tongs, G.E. Walton, 1893

![](http://staticaz.antiquesatlas.com/images/loading_new.gif)
This is an attractive pair of late Victorian Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs. The tongs have oval shaped bowls on the end of twist stems. The upper part of the arms have pierced and engraved decoration above a roundel with a leaf motif. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The sugar tongs are made in Birmingham by G.E. Walton & Co and date to 1893. George Edwin Walton founded his firm in the early 1880s with manufacturing premises in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter and a showroom in London's prestigious Hatton Garden district. They went out of business in 1913.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 130 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sugar tongs are 10.7cm / 4.2ins long and weigh a respectable 21.9g / 0.77oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside of one arm, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter t for 1893 and the G.E.W.Ld makers' mark for G.E. Walton & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
