Victorian Silver Butt Marker
Here we have a rare Victorian Sterling silver shooting butt maker complete with it's full set of eight numbered pegs, the place finder is made in the form of a purse with the pegs all enclosed but when opening they all fan out, each one numbered 1 - 8, the interior of the case is gilded and hallmarked for London 1898 and the silversmith John Millward Banks, on the side is the maker's name of Albert Barker Ltd, London.
The numbered pegs are randomly inserted into the cartridge, number side down. Each shooter then takes their turn to draw a peg and the revealed number shows the actual shooting position (butt) that they will use for the first drive. Place finders were very popular from the 1900's and are making a resurgence today, with many shooters looking out for good antique examples.
There is one closing clasp missing but it still opens and closes as it should and stays firmly closed, the silver needs a good clean but we have left this alone for it's new owner to do or leave as it is, the fan mechanism is in perfect working order and all the pegs are present, original and clean.
Size: 52 x 30mm when closed
Free postage and packaging is included in the price of this item.
