Victorian silver box, the cover with high relief shooting scene - Army & Navy Cooperative Society Ltd., London 1892, 8x5x4cm – 100g This lovely silver box, typical of the late Victorian period has a fine, profusely decorated cover - the central cast oval plaque depicts a hunter in a woodland scene shooting with three dogs, within a scrolling floral and foliate repoussé surround The sides of the cover and the box itself are plain. The interior is gilded throughout. Good legible hallmarks to both base and cover for London 1892, sponsor's mark FBM for Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd (Frederick Bradford Macrea).

The cover decoration is in excellent condition, including the gilding on the interior. The box itself shows signs of age and use including a noticeable deformation (ding) to one long side and a smaller one to one of the ends (see pictures). The interior gilding of the box is discoloured.

I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking.
