An absolutely stunning antique Victorian egg shaped thimble case / holder, possibly a chatelaine accessory, so beautifully formed with an all over finely chased design of blossom flowers on trailing branches amongst leaves. Formed in gilt or brass metal, with a fitted interior, red velvet on one side with a well for the thimble, the opposite side with a red silk quilting and wavy white braiding. Inside is a solid silver thimble by Charles May, hallmarked for Birmingham 1901, size 2 with a facet cut edge and incised scrollwork and feathering. Both are in gorgeous vintage condition, the thimble looks barely used, no pin prick holes, the egg thimble case closes firmly and is complet with a small hanging chain. A stunning addition to any collection and a fine and beautiful display piece. Charming, exquisite. Measures approximately 4.5cm x 3.2cm. A wonderful period sewing collectable.
