Silver Pedestal Butter Dishes, West & Sons, 1894
A pair of scallop shell style butter dishes on pedestal, made by the renowned jeweller and silversmith West and Sons, assayed in Dublin in 1894. The firm participated at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London and the 1853 Dublin Exhibition to great critical acclaim, particularly for their replicas and revival of Celtic designs and antique Irish ornaments. Some objects are found in the British Royal Collection. When the object on sale was made, the firm was run by Langley Archer West (from 1877 to 1932).
