Silver Mustard Spoon, G'smiths & S'smiths, 1915
Here we have a top quality George V long stemmed Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon is made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd and dates to 1915. The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company was established in 1880 by William Gibson & John Langman. They quickly established themselves as manufacturers of very high quality items and remained in business until they merged with Garrard & Co in 1952.
This is a long stemmed mustard spoon, which is unusual for an early 20th century one. Most were much shorter to fit the small mustard pots that had become standard by then. It may have been made to replace a spoon that had gone missing from a much older large mustard pot and would certainly fit best with one of those. There are no initials or personalisation on the spoon.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear that you have to expect after over 100 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 10.9cm / 4.3" long and weighs a respectable 10.0g / 0.35oz.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "u" for 1915 and the G & S Co Ltd makers' mark for the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
