Silver Bowl
Silver Bowl
Awarded as a Cribbage Prize in a military club
Engraved underneath is
"Sgt Tom Lowry
Cribbage Singles Champion
SNCO Club Kolsas 1976"
Kolsas is a wooded mountain area in Norway. It is a popular area for climbers and has been a climbing training centre since early 20th Century. The military connection with this area is an important one as it was the base for NATO's Allied Forces Northern Europe until, I believe, the 1990s. Hence this prize awarded in the Senior Non Commissioned Officers Club.
It is a three footed shallow bowl with D.A. 880 S stamped on one. This, I assume, is the silver mark used in Norway with 880 being the silver content just below that of sterling which is 925.
Approximate dimensions diameter... 157mm, height ... 42mm, weight... 119g
The condition is good with some surface marks associated with normal use. It has been dropped at some stage as the rim is slightly lower in one area about 71mm long. This is not very noticeable and does not spoil the look of the bowl.
