Napoleon Sulphide Glass Scent Bottle Baccarat antique French early %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A French cut glass lay down scent bottle with internal sulphide cameo portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte with his coronation head piece, c.1830, probably by Baccarat. Circular with facet cut rounded lobes around the edge, the front, polished and slightly domed and the reverse panel covered with cut diamonds. Fitted with an original small internal glass stopper and an unmarked silver screw on lid. Very fine cameo portrait, there is an inscription running along the bottom which I just cannot quite make out with certainty I'm afraid.

It measures 6.5cm (2 1/2") wide, 8cm (3 1/8") tall and 2cm (3/4") deep and weighs 87g. Condition is very good there is a very small chip to the outer edge of the rim under the cap. There are a couple of small, fine scratches inside the glass, not visible at most angles and just minor signs of age to the lid and some small scuffs to the tips of a few of the diamonds on the reverse. A very nice piece for use or display.
