Large Georgian Silver Sauce Boat 1766

Very attractive George III silver sauce boat of large size. Plain round bellied form with shaped gadrooned rim set on a pedestal foot with cast edge decoration of sea shells amongst egg and dart bordered scrolls. The ornate multiple scrolled handles with spurs and feather capped thumb rest finishes on a large feathered style terminal rising over the back of the boat with spiral horns either side and further shell detail. Hallmarked for London 1766, maker George Smith II.
It measures 19cm (7 1/2") long, 10.7cm (4 1/4") wide and 17cm (6 3/4") high. It weighs 493g/15.9ozt. Condition is very good there is evidence of a little repair work to a short section of the join between the foot and the body. A few pin prick dints about from age and use but no dents of any consequence. There is a small lozenge shape crest on one side split into quadrangles with opposing sections engraved with rampant lions and stars. Hallmarked are slightly obscured to one edge but still legible. We are now taking a few days off for Christmas, back on the 5th of January. Wishing all our customers a very Happy Christmas!!
