Indian Silver Double Spirit Measure, c.1890-1930
Here we have an attractive late 19th / early 20th century Indian Silver Double Spirit Measure or Jigger. The measure is hourglass shaped with one smaller cup for a single measure and one larger one for a double measure. Both cups are decorated with Indian deities or dancers in the Swami style.
As with virtually all Indian silver, this piece is unmarked. However the jigger was almost certainly made in Chennai (formerly Madras) which was the home of Swami style silver in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is very much an item for European use and would have been made in the days of the British Raj between about 1890 and 1930.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The measure is 10.2cm / 4ins high, with the large cup being 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter and the small one being 4.1cm / 1.6ins in diameter. It weighs in at a very respectable 61.3g / 2.16oz of solid silver.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spirit measure.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
