German Silver Art Nouveau Football Motto Tumbler
D.J.MASSEY & SON
This is a German Silver Art Nouveau Tumbler, possibly by Forster and Graf of Schwabisch.
It is embossed with an Art Nouveau floral spray, and is engraved with
“Zur Erinnerung an die 1. Mannschaft der M.F.G. 1896, Dezember 1910”
which translates as “In memory of the first team of M.F.G. 1896, December 1910.”
This is not a loss of life but a fan or players tumbler who was sad to see the demise of Mannheimer Fußballgesellschaft 1896, one of the founder members of the German Football Association in 1900, after the club was merged with other clubs in 1911.
Height.......................4½ inches.
Weight..................142.9 grams.
