Georgian Pierced Silver Drum Mustard Pot 1773
Pretty George III silver drum mustard with pierced walls with central floral band. Gadrooned style cast patterning to the rim and engraved band to the foot. An eliptical vacant cartouche sits at the front. The hinged lid with thumb rest is plain save an engraved armorial of a rearing horse. Fitted with an antique replacement blue glass liner. Hallmarked to the lid and side for London 1773. The maker's mark on the lid is partially rubbed but I believe to be that of Charles Aldridge and Henry Green.
It measures 9cm (3 1/2") deep, 6.5cm (2 1/2") wide and 5.5cm (2 1/8") high. It weighs 192g in total and 90g/2.9ozt.
Condition is good overall with a couple of points to note: the thumb rest has been very neatly repaired which may explain why the cover spoon hole is slightly off centre to the front of the pot (the armorial on the lid aligns to the pot). There is also evidence of later work in the form of a seam from just below the rim to the foot rim to the left of the handle but I can't establish why this has been done it is unlikely to be the original seam to the cylinder as I would expect it to be invisible and probably under the handle. The handle aligns to the pot so hasn't been moved and there is no evidence of work in this area. The replacement liner is not snug but a pretty good and usable match. Surface wear is light in the main, a little wear to the marks, more so to the maker's mark as mentioned. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
