George V Silver Tea Strainer, Atkin Brothers, 1913 George V Silver Tea Strainer %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a simple but elegant George V Sterling Silver Tea Strainer. The strainer is round in form with a short handle and a raised rolled rim, whilst the piercings form a daisy pattern in the bottom of the bowl.

The tea strainer is made in Sheffield by Atkin Brothers and dates to just before the First World War in 1913. Founded by Harry Atkin in the 1840s, Atkin Brothers were a hugely successful firm of silversmiths and electroplaters who remained in business until the late 1950s.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected in an item of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tea strainer is 9.4cm / 3.7ins from handle to rim, 7.3cm / 2.9ins in diameter and 1.9cm / 0.75ins high. It weighs a very respectable 34.6g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the upper rim are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter v for 1913 and the HA makers' mark for Atkin Brothers.
