George V Silver Photo Frame, Birmingham, 1924
Here we have a handsome George V Sterling Silver Photo Frame. The frame is a plain silver oblong, suitable for any style of interior. The easel back is wooden and there is a rich burgundy colour backing card behind the glass. The visible picture size is 6.75ins by 4.25ins, or 6 x 4 with a mount.
The photo frame was made in Birmingham by Sanders & Mackenzie and dates to 1924. Ernest W. Sanders and Henry A. Mackenzie established their firm in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in 1911. They were very successful, producing a broad range of silverware from their premises in Spencer Street, where they remained in business until around 1980.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 100 years of good service. The hinged strut and clips holding the back in place are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The overall dimensions of the frame are 19.1cm / 7.5ins by 13cm / 5.1ins and it is 10.5cm / 4.1ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs in at 265.2g / 9.35oz.
The hallmarks, on the side of the silver frame, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham the date letter z for 1924 and the S & M makers' mark for Sanders & Mackenzie.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
