George V Silver Napkin Ring, Rolason Bros, 1921
This is a stylish George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring from the 1920s. The circular napkin ring has parallel bands of engine turned decoration around the body to either side of a blank round cartouche and the top and bottom rims are rolled.
The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by Rolason Brothers and dates to 1921. Rolason Brothers established their company in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in the mid-1880s. They made a wide range of small silver items for personal and table use and also registered a mark in Chester. They remained in business up until the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 1.8cm / 0.71ins deep. It weighs in at 8.8g / 0.31oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, across the body of the ring, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the R.Bs makers' mark for Rolason Brothers.
