George V Silver Napkin Ring, Chester, 1927
Here we have a good quality George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The ring is arch shaped with a nicely curved base. It has the name Nancy and the date 1928 elegantly engraved across the top and was most probably given as a Christening gift.
The napkin ring was made by well known silversmiths S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd and assayed in Chester in 1927. Blanckensee was founded in the late 1870s in Birmingham and remained in business up until the start of the Second World War. Like many Birmingham makers, they would often send their smaller pieces to the Chester assay office to be hallmarked.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after around 95 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.7cm / 1.8ins wide, 3.5cm / 1.4ins high and 2cm / 0.8ins deep. It weighs in at a respectable 23g / 0.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and 3 wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter B for 1927 and the S.B & S Ld makers mark for S. Blanckensee & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
