George V Silver Mustard Pot, Thomas Bradbury, 1919
Here we have a high quality, heavy, George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot in the traditional drum shape with its original blue glass liner. The pot has a scrolling handle and a shell shaped thumb rest. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard pot is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd and dates to 1919. Thomas Bradury became a partner in the firm of Watson & Co in 1795 and after Thomas Watson retired in 1831 was joined by his son, also Thomas, and the firm was renamed Thomas Bradbury & Son, later Sons. The firm manufactured in Sheffield and had a showroom in London's Gough Square, off Fleet Street. The company remained in the Bradbury family until it closed in 1943.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 7.2cm / 2.8ins from rim to handle, 5cm / 1.9ins in diameter and stands 6.3cm / 2.5ins high. Without the blue glass liner it weighs in at a substantial 99g / 3.5oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 142.9g / 5oz.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter b for 1919 and the T B & S in a shield makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd. The inside of the lid has a partial set with the lion passant and the makers' mark.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the mustard pot.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
