George V Silver Baby Spoon, Glasgow, 1930

This is a charming George V Scottish Sterling Silver Baby Spoon. The spoon has a circular bowl and a short wide stem with a Hush-a-Bye Baby design at the top. The underside of the stem is elegantly engraved with From His Godmother and this would almost certainly have been a Christening gift and would still make a lovely gift today.
The spoon was made in Glasgow by W.H. Collins & Co and dates to 1930. Walter Henry Collins founded his firm in Birmingham around 1880. The company were principally manufacturing jewellers and are particularly well known for their high quality lockets. Highly successful, they also manufactured in Glasgow and supplied jewellery stores in the UK and other countries. The firm also produced a range of silver baby gifts including rattles, teethers, christening sets and spoons. They ceased trading in the late 1950s or early 1960s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 9.8cm / 3.8ins long and 3.3cm / 1.3ins across the bowl. It weighs in at a respectable 17.0g / 0.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion rampant and the thistle for Scottish Sterling Silver, the tree, fish and bell assay mark for Glasgow, the date letter h for 1930 and the W.H.C makers' mark for W.H. Collins & Co.
