This is a well made George III Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has bight cut decoration down the front of the stem and a letter C elegantly engraved at the top.

The table spoon was made in Exeter by William Welch II and dates to 1804. The older William Welch was active in Plymouth Dock between 1758 and 1800. He specialised in flatware but did make some items of tableware. William Welch II, also a specialist spoon and flatware maker, was active in Exeter between 1801 and the late 1820s and was probably the son of William Welch I.

Condition is good, with just a couple of little dings in the bowl plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 220 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 22cm / 8.6ins long and weighs in at a respectable 45.1g / 1.59oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter H for 1804, the George III duty mark and the W.W makers' mark for William Welch II.
