George III Hester Bateman Oval Silver Teapot
Lovely late 18th century silver teapot by renowned female silversmith Hester Bateman. Of typical oval form with pretty bright cut engraved decorative bands around the top and bottom of the body, around the shoulders and edge of the lid with concealed hinge, and tip of the spout. The rim of the lid and base also have a beaded border. A fine carved walnut handle and carved ebony knop. There is an attractive and rather grand armorial crest to one side with shield containing rampant lion, with further lion holding coronet above. Hallmarked for London 1785.
It measures 9 1/2" long and 3 3/4" wide and 5 3/4" high. It weighs 383g/12.3ozt. Condition is very good there are a few tiny surface dints and a very slight compression of the spout, really not noticeable unless particularly inspected. There is some slight movement to the knop, not loose but it does turn if twisted. The handle has an old splint repair and is strong and stable and fine for use. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
