Fine Pair George V Silver Sweetmeat Dishes
Fine quality pair of unusual and substantial small silver sweetmeat dishes. The dishes are hexagonal with fine pierced and engraved borders. They are supported on 4 curved arms with cast scroll ends, acanthus leaf detail and daisy flowers tips. These sit in the 4 corners of an ornate square form base with concave sides each decorated with bellflowers and daisy detail. The corners have further fine detail of square blocks and limpet shells and set on slim stepped feet. The centre of the base rises up to support another beautifully cast fine petalled flower. Twin handles rise up the sides and replicate the acanthus leaf detail and daisy finials of the arms below.
Clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1912, makers D&M Davis (David & Maurice Davis). They measure 14.5cm (5 3/4") wide across the handles, 12.5cm (4 7/8") across the sides and 8.5cm (3 3/8") high. They weigh 497g/16ozt.
Condition is excellent with no damage or repairs. A little surface wear inside the dishes appropriate for age and light use and minimal elsewhere.
