Edwardian Silver Sugar Nips, Chester, 1909 Edwardian Silver Sugar Nips %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a stylish pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Sugar Nips. The nips have the classic scissor action with scalloped handles and arms and shell bowls. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The sugar nips are made by the firm of Haseler Brothers and assayed in Chester in 1909. Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler were based in Birmingham in the late 19th and early 20th century. Like many Birmingham silversmiths they often sent their smaller items to the Chester assay office to be hallmarked.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. The scissor action is smooth and they hold a sugar cube securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The nips are 11cm / 4.3ins long and weigh a respectable 28g / 0.99oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the ends of the handles are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the script date letter I for 1909 and the H.BRs makers' mark for Haseler Brothers.
