Edwardian Silver Mug, Gsmiths & Ssmiths, 1905 Edwardian Silver Mug %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a superb quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Mug / Christening Cup in its original Fitted Case. The mug has a circular rim base, a part reeded body and a C-shape handle. the black leather case has a red satin lining in the lid and a dark red velvet tray to hold the mug. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind making this ideal as a gift for a Christening, retirement, best man or any special occasion.

The mug was made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1905. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with Garrard & Co.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and only the most minimal superficial surface wear. It seems likely that this has been kept as treasured gift and heirloom for the last 120 years rather than seen any use. The case is in good condition and the hinge and clasp are in working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mug is 8.7cm / 3.4ins from rim to handle, 6.5cm / 2.5ins across the top rim and stands 8.3cm / 3.2ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 136.4g / 4.8oz / 4.4toz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1905 and the distinctive G & S Co Ld makers' mark for the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Limited. The underside of the base also has the retail stamp Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, W.

Shipping in the UK is £13.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the mug.
