Charles Horner Little Dorcas Thimble
We have for sale a charming Little Dorcas Charles Horner thimble.
The Dorcas thimbles were what made Charles Horner famous in that they represented a silver thimble with a steel core making them not only decorative but truly usable a sewing tools. In comparison the cheaper to make standard solid silver thimbles provided little protection because their soft silver bodies were readily punctured by needles. The Little Dorcas thimbles were produced by Charles Horner of Halifax Yorkshire in the early to mid 19th century as a shorter alternative to his standard height Dorcas thimble.
This particular Little Dorcas thimble is decorated with a daisy pattern along with a plain bade and plane straight rim. The thimble would fit a medium to large forefinger being a size 6 example.
The thimble is in very good condition with no holes or repairs but it does carry surface scratches commensurate with historical use. This thimble is perfect for the person who would like a decorative thimble that could be used for sewing.
