Brass and Copper Monkey Cheroot Cutter %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A rare and unusual German Jugendstil brass, copper and steel cheroot cutter modeled as a monkey sat within a rounded tray. The tail lifts and acts as the cutting edge with a small hole to insert the cheroot. The brass monkey with riveted limbs and engraved detail sits in a rounded hand hammered copper base and is typically not marked. Similar examples are also made as a dog, stork, elephant etc and always unsigned. Ignatius Taschner was a German sculptor, designer and illustrator. Offered in excellent condition with usual age wear to steel element.
