Art Nouveau Silver Mounted Scent Bottle, 1904
Here we have a beautiful large Art Nouveau Cut Glass Perfume Bottle with a Sterling Silver Lid. The bottle is spherical with a flat base and is decorated with a deep cut swirling organic pattern below spreading fans or peacock tails. The lid has chased decoration of swirls and flowers surrounding a blank cartouche on the top. The lid is cork lined to help prevent drips.
The perfume bottle was made in London by William H Walter and dates to 1904. William Harrison Walter was a manufacturing and retail silversmith based in Newgate Street in London. Established in 1888, the firm both made their own silverware and commissioned pieces from other manufacturers that were then stamped with the W.H.W mark. The company had marks registered in London, Birmingham and Chester, which are seen across a wide range of silverware. They ceased trading around 1910.
Condition is extremely good, with no chips or cracks in the glass and no dings or dents in the silver, just the overall superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle is 11.5cm / 4.5ins high and 8.2cm / 3.2ins in diameter. It weighs 406.5g / 14.3oz.
The hallmarks, on the collar of the lid, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter II for 1904 and the W.H.W makers' mark for William H Walter.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the perfume bottle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
