Art Deco Silver Napkin Ring, W.H. Haseler, 1936
This is a smart Art Deco Sterling Silver Napkin Ring from the 1930s. The ring is circular with rolled rims. There is an engine turned checkerboard pattern around the body with a blank circular cartouche at the front.
The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by W.H.Haseler Ltd and dates to 1936. The firm was founded by William Hair Haseler in around 1849 in Birmingham. They will be forever known for their association with Liberty & Co of London for whom they produced the Cymric range of silverware and the Tudric range of pewterware during the first quarter of the 20th century, during which period Liberty & Co were co-owners of the business. After WW2 they became known as Haseler & Restall and remained in business into the 1970s.
Condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 1.8cm / 0.71ins deep. It weighs in at 7.3g / 0.25oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outside back of the body, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter M for 1936 and the W.H.H makers' mark for W.H. Haseler Ltd.
