Art Deco Silver Mustard Pot, Adie Bros, 1936
Here we have a very stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner. The mustard pot is circular, tapering down to a low base, with line decoration around the upper part of the body. The lid is stepped with a flat topped finial.
The pot is made by well known silversmiths Adie Brothers of Birmingham and dates to the height of the Art Deco era in 1936. Adie Brothers were formed in 1906 by the merger of other silver companies and remained in business up until the 1960s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 80 years of use. The blue glass liner has no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot is 4.5cm / 1.8ins high to the top of the finial, 4.6cm / 1.8ins diameter across the top rim and 6.5cm / 2.6ins from rim to handle. Without the blue glass liner, it weighs in at a very respectable 38.5g / 1.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the base are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter M for 1936 and the distinctive A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd. In addition there is a secondary set on the inside of the lid showing the lion passant and the date letter M.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
