The most gorgeous set of Victorian fully hallmarked sterling silver shell salts made by the esteemed silversmiths Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings - Frank - Shepherd in 1897. This firm would go on to be commissioned by the Prince of Wales in 1981 to make the 18k gold bracelet Princess Diana wore on her wedding day. They are still in business today specializing in high quality antique jewellery / jewelry. The adorable solid silver shell salts are superb & without any damage - such attention to detail & shown off in a super little case which is in remarkably good condition - leather bound wood with a gilt border & brass hinges & clasps which all work perfectly. The brass fittings are ornate & gorgeous as you would expect being from this era. The lid interior is lined with Roman purple silk & the base interior Roman purple velvet with fittings on which the spoons rest & recesses for the salts. The salts are both hallmarked 'CS FS (maker) lion passant (sterling silver) x (date year 1897) anchor (Birmingham Assay Office). On the base of each one three mounted orbs which serve as stands. The tiny salts spoons incorporate orbs as part of their design too. The salt spoons are silver plated.
Each salt measures 5.3 cm wide & weighs 9.4 grams.
Each spoon measures 5.1 cm long & weighs 2.4 grams.
