5 x Art Nouveau Silver Buttons-Reynolds & Westwood
This is an exquisite Set of Five Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Buttons from the late Victorian period. The buttons have a pierced design of a rose with its stem and leaves in a scalloped circular frame.
The buttons were made in Birmingham by renowned silver button makers Reynolds & Westwood and date to the year 1900. The firm was founded by John Reynolds and George Frederick Westwood in the mid 1890s and operated out of premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They produced a wide range of small silver items, notably buttons, mostly for personal use and of consistently good quality. The firm ceased trading around 1911/12.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The buttons are 2.7cm in diameter and the set of five together weighs in at a respectable 25.4g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the front of the buttons at the bottom, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the R & W makers' mark for Reynolds & Westwood.
