2 x George V Silver Butter Knives-S.G. Jacobs-1913
Here we have a very sweet pair of George V small Sterling Silver Butter Knives in the traditional Old English pattern. The knives are made by S.G. Jacobs in Birmingham and date to 1913. There's not a lot of information available about S.G. Jacobs. He or She was in business between 1904 and around 1930 and the mark is known almost entirely from items of tableware.
The butter knives are well made in a reasonable gauge of silver. They have the usual flattened, boat shaped blade to enable you to pick up and spread butter. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
Condition is good with just the minimal wear you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each butter knife is 9cm / 3.5" long and the pair together weigh in at 14.6g / 0.51oz.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are clear to read, although the makers' marks are just a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "o" for 1913 and the S.G.J makers' mark for S.G. Jacobs.
