Here we have a fine Pair of George III Sterling Silver Serving Spoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have the initials E J R elegantly engraved at the tops of the stems.

The serving spoons were made in Exeter by silversmiths Joseph Goss and Francis Parsons and date to 1810. There is very little information available about Joseph Goss and Francis Parsons. Their mark is only seen on spoons and flatware assayed in Exeter for a short period of time between around 1800 and 1810.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no wear to the tips and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after 215 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 23.1cm / 9.1ins long and the pair together weigh in at a substantial 134.9g / 4.75oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter O for 1810, the George III duty mark and the J.G over F.P makers' mark for Joseph Goss & Francis Parsons.
