2 x Art Deco Silver Toast Racks, Wm. Neale, 1938
This is a typically Art Deco Pair of Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Racks. The toast racks are on oblong bases with stepped arched dividers and odeon style handles with rosette decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toast racks are made in Birmingham by William Neale & Sons Ltd and date to 1938. Founded by William Neale in 1850, the firm became William Neale & Sons around 1890 and a limited company in the early 1900s. They produced a wide range of personal and household silverware and remained in business until the early years of the Second World War, being taken over by William Suckling Ltd in 1941.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just a slight rock to one of the toast racks plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 80 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each toast rack is 7.3cm / 2.9ins long, 5.4cm / 2.1ins wide and stands 7.6cm / 3ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very respectable 110.3g / 3.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of each toast rack are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter O for 1938 and the W.N LTD makers' mark for William Neale & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast racks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
