19thC Large Dutch Silver Miniature Bureau Bookcase
Superb large miniature Dutch silver bureau bookcase dating from c.1880. It has a rococo pelmet, window doors to the front and windows to each side and sits on a 'bombe' style base with ball and claw feet to the front. The doors have a working twist latch and are decorated with small portrait cameos to represent Sevres style plaques. A similar plaque is held in a decorative carved feature to the top of the piece. The bureau front drops down to reveal 6 hidey holes with 4 small silver drawers and the base has 3 highly elaborate full size drawers with applied cast escutcheon plates and hinged handles.
The drawers are all marked with the Dutch standard to the back and various assayer and other marks to the base. Similar marks are on the back panel of the case and the side panel and bureau front also have the standard mark.
It measures 6 1/2" high, 4 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep and weighs a very impressive 18.1ozt/562g. Condition is very good but with a small area of damage to the fine 'carved' detail at the top of the piece and some light surface wear appropriate for age and use. One of the front feet is slightly out of line with the other but I don't think it has taken a knock these pieces were hand made and often not quite perfect as a result. There is a marked panel inside the cupboard which was likely a shelf but is wedged in currently so an option if you wish to get it freed and reinstated. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
Price includes UK shipping. Worldwide shipping is also available, please ask for a cost.
We wish to ensure all our customers are happy with their purchases and offer a full no quibble return policy for all items returned within 14 days. We ask that returns are notified within 7 days where possible. Return postage is the buyer's responsibility in terms of cost and safeguarding the item through transit.
