2 x Mid-Century Silver Taper Holders, Cohr c.1960s
This is a very eye-catching Pair of Mid-Century Sterling Silver Taper Holders. The taper holders are in classic Scandinavian mid-century style with a rounded triangular form standing on three spreading feet. They are designed for small candles or tapers of approx 1cm diameter.
The taper holders were made in Fredericia, Denmark by C.M. Cohr & Co and date to around the 1960s. The company was founded in 1860 by Ditlev Madsen Cohr in Fredericia, Denmark. After his death in 1883, his widow ran the company before their son Carl Madsen Cohr took over in the 1890s. Carl modernised the company and it retained his name after his death in 1925. Carl’s son Einar later took over and took the company to new heights in the post-WW2 era. The firm was sold after his death in the early 1970s and sadly closed in 1987.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The taper holders are 5.2cm / 2ins across and stand 1.8cm / 0.71ins high. The pair together weighs in at a very respectable 63.1g / 2.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The underside of each candle holder is stamped COHR for C.M. Cohr & Co, STERLING for 925/1000 grade Sterling Silver and DENMARK as the country of origin.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the taper holders.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
