2 x Edwardian Silver Candlesticks, Sheffield, 1908
This is an elegant Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Dwarf Candlesticks. The candlesticks have square bases, which are weighted for stability and covered with green baize to help prevent scratching. The sconces are urn shaped with ribbon swags in the Adams style.
The candlesticks were made in Sheffield by silversmiths Fordham & Faulkner and date to 1908. The firm was established by William Fordham and Albert Faulkner in Sheffield in 1896. They are best known for their good quality tableware and candlesticks. The partnership was dissolved in 1916 with both parties continuing as separate businesses, Fordham & Fordham and Albert Faulkner, into the 1920s.
Overall condition is good, with just a few small dents around the rims of the bases and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bases are 6.8cm / 2.7ins square and the candlesticks stand 8cm / 3.1ins high. The pair together weighs in at 244.8g / 8.64oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the side rims of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter q for 1908 and the W.F over A.F makers' mark for William Fordham and Albert Faulkner.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
