Very pretty large Derby bowl with 2 beautifully painted landscape reserves on opposing sides sitting amongst ornate gilded decoration of rising acanthus leaves other stylised foliate shapes on a white ground. Gilded rims and a decorative gilded frieze running inside the rim. Both vignettes feature complimentary scenes of cottages set against a wooded backdrop, one with a watermill to the side. Painted red mark on the base, c.1815, and with the views named in red script as "In Cumberland" and "Near Etwall, Derbyshire".

It measures 15.5cm (6 1/8") wide and 7cm (2 3/4") high. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There is a bit of wear to the gilding mainly to some areas of the band around the foot and to some of the finer lines to the lower half of the main gilded areas. 2 tiny paint losses to one of the landscapes (1mm), otherwise minimal surface wear. A very nice and practically sized bowl.
