Massive 17th Century Antique Oak Plank Box.
Massive 17th Century Antique Oak Plank Box.
This is an amazing, six plank antique oak box, made from a single plank of oak timber and originally coming from Cumbria, England.
Over the years, this 300 hundred year old oak has been washed and scrubbed to this now , faded, dry and pale colour which shows of the oak graining wonderfully.
The construction is very clever, the ends are dovetailed into the corner posts, forming a clamped on end.
Then made even stronger by being nailed with Blacksmith iron nails.
The oak top has the original iron strap hinges.
This huge unusual and unique antique oak box dates from the English, Cromwellian period around 1650.
The box is full height and is in remarkably great condition, given its age.
This antique oak box is very heavy but beautiful, just what has it housed? Maybe armour, precious ornaments or robes.
